I said that I'd like "to become a better mother," and everyone jumped on me and said I was being too hard on myself. But I hadn't meant that I thought that I was a "bad mom," just that I really wanted to focus on motherhood in the year to come. I actually had your post in mind about not apologizing for holding our role of mom as important as our careers in our conversations. I think you're a GREAT mom . . . and I think it's a wonderful thing to have the healthy--not guilty--desire to be an even better one, just like we do with our writing and other endeavors.
