Hayden’s First Word!

It’s been almost two weeks since he said it, but Hayden’s first official “word” (which, I do have to admit, is a bit arbitrary) happened to be one of the ones he was already very good at signing: “More.”

Yes, he said “Daddy” in July (though he refuses to now), and “Mommy” and “Nana” (which quickly became “Nanny”) in August, but aside from “Mommy,” this is really the first word that he’s said that he repeats consistently.

And, within a week, he had a new reason for repeating it: his first television show.

It was an accident, really. I figured I’d switch on a kids’ show. Blue’s Clues was on, according to the television schedule, followed by a show I’d only heard about. Everyone I knew who’d seen this show complained and whined about it being bizarre and scary and annoying.

And when I turned on the TV, it was on. Hayden sat down on the floor and couldn’t take his eyes off the screen.

And then we were hooked.

So in the last week, Hayden has added two new words to his vocabulary: “ha da” or “da da” (hot dog) and “Bah” or “Bah Bah” for our new favorite past time,

Yo Gabba Gabba
Yo Gabba Gabba!

I’ve even gotten Ryan in on the act. He says that the fact that one of the creators of Yo Gabba Gabba is an Aquabat has no bearing on his liking of the show (he’s a fan) (of both, I think). I’ve also been corrupting my currently-childless sister Jaime and sister-in-law Jess.

Possibly the worst part? The other day after Hayden had been in bed for a while, and I realized I hadn’t heard any Yo Gabba Gabba for several hours.

And I missed it.

Thank heavens for YouTube! Of course, that does mean that the computer is now Hayden’s personal Yo Gabba Gabba viewer. He walks up to whoever is on the computer and begins signing and begging, “Moooore!”

Oop, and here he comes now…

My girls are liking Yo Gabba Gabba too! I have to admit that I thought it sounded strange at first, but it turns out to be quite catchy, lol.

Oh! And when Sierra didn’t want to eat some of her supper the other day, I couldn’t help but burst out with
“Try it! You’ll like it! Try it! You’ll like it!” (A song from the first episode.)

Too cute!

I’m not sure that I’ve ever even seen Yo Gabba Gabba listed here, but I’ll look out for it.

As for Herr Meow, he loves Elmo with a passion… even when we didn’t even watch Sesame Street. Whenever he sees him, he starts to whine, “Emmmo! Emmmo! Peez?”

Elmo= baby crack, or something.

@Kasie—I have that one on tape! I sang Hayden “Hugs are fun” to get a hug—and it worked!

@Madame M—Sesame Street comes on during nap time here, but Hayden is drawn to his Elmo toy the most out of his Sesame Street toys. (Possibly because it’s the only one that he can make motor sounds for.)

It’s definitely a weird show. I mean the host in his furry orange hat is just so bizarre. But my kids love it! Congrats Hayden on the new word!

That’s cute. I haven’t heard of this show … so, it’s for the younger crowd? Interesting.

My girls just started talking a lot in the last few weeks. Mooooorre is their favorite word! It’s the cutest thing.

Enjoy it!!

I was just talking to my mom about Hayden and his signing last night. So then she asked what his 1st word was and I said either I don’t know or he’s not talking yet. I love it……MORE!!!!

We are Yo Gabba Gabba fans too! And Blue’s Clues, of course. Those are the two shows I let her watch…well, sometimes The Wiggles, if we’re having a bad day. (Singing and dancing can’t be all bad, right?)

I think Yo Gabba Gabba is pretty good, it gets her dancing and clapping, even if the messages are beyond her understanding at this point. I really don’t think I could be that entertaining, so for a half hour a day, I let those freaky dudes do it for me.

Have you seen the one where DJ Lance (the host) wishes he could fly, then the toy guys are like “DJ Lance, but you can fly!” Then DJ says “Oh yeah, I forgot!” and he takes off flying through the air? With no explanation, and for no reason…it was totally bizarre, and quite possibly one of the funniest things I’ve seen lately.

Too funny Jordan! I love the part about him coming up to the computer amd signing ‘moooore!’ I can just hear his little voice : )

My boys ADORE yo gabba gabba!!! I think it is so trippy! Halarious! like in an alice and wonderland sort of way. HA. I have to confess that it is so dang cute to watch those little guys dance to the show that I get up and join in! 🙂

Sunny- I completely know what you are talking about- the flying. The first time I saw that I couldn’t believe how random and there never was an explanation 🙂 But my kids thought it was the funniest thing ever.

I only watched the premiere show and while it was catchy, it annoyed me. Maybe I’m overthinking but my husband pointed out that there’s a weird black guy carrying around a thing that looks like a boom box — is it stereotyping?

But then there was the toothbrushing bit and they only showed them brushing their front teeth. Seriously, that’s the easy part. What about having them open wide and clean all those OTHER teeth in back!

@Peggy—”stereotype,” “boom box”—that’s one of those “self-referential jokes,” right? (In all seriousness, I really don’t think it a stereotype for a host of reasons.)

@Zabs, Kasie, et al.—saw the flying one today. Um, okay. But anyway, to me, DJ Lance is like any other kids’ show host. It takes a very special kind of person to do that job, and he does it with gusto!

hi my small one loves yo gabba gabba but due to my work schedule i only get to watch is little clips on youtube. If anyone knows of any website that shows full episodes (and I’ve searched high and low)it would be much obliged.
