i’m soaking up as much of this as i can as i prepare for my move. my problem is i already have afamiliarpath domain on blogger and i’m moving to self-hosted wordpress with afamiliarpath.com no new domain.

That's actually addressed in the ultimate guide to migrating from Blogger to WordPress, the first part of the series, where I recommend doing exactly what you did. I've heard some people claim that this technique is "black hat" or against Google's guidelines, but Blogger doesn't check to see if your servers are pointing back, so it must not matter to Google. WordPress.com, for example, does check when you use their paid domain mapping service that your domain points back.

One issue that you didn’t address: What to do with the old Blogger blog.

I left it intact, rather than deleting it. I also have it set to publish to my custom domain name. Is that the correct thing to do? I had my custom domain name before I migrated to WordPress and that’s what I was doing then, so I left it that way. Is that a problem?
