Blog Action Day: Fighting poverty with education

So when I first heard about today’s Blog Action Day topic, I must admit, I mocked it. What is a blog post going to do to fight poverty, anyway? The very idea seems to taunt the people it’s meant to help.

So, following on my boss’s lead, I’ll be donating to a cause designed to help people suffering in poverty. This particular organization provides loans for people in developing countries and areas who are seeking education to further themselves. The loans carry minimal interest and are repaid into the fund once the recipient has graduated and found gainful employment. The Perpetual Education Fund then loans that money to another recipient.

The PEF was established by the LDS Church in 2001 and has already seen success around the world.

You can donate to the PEF too through LDS Philanthropies.
