Hayden, Contrarian

Hayden learned a new game while we were in NC:

He’s becoming quite the contrarian. The other day, I took something from him that he’d been chewing on. I told him that I knew it felt neat on his teeth. He quite distinctly said, “Two.” (Or “To,” or “Too.” Whatever.) I had to tell him that he really had four teeth now.

He’s a pretty determined guy. When he’s set his mind to something, whether it’s standing up in the tub or playing with the computer cords, keyboard and diskettes, or rifling through our important papers, it takes quite a bit of distraction to get him away from his goal.

Luckily, I’m pretty determined, too. Sometimes, at least.

En garde!

Hayden and his Paw Paw (great grandpa) got into it on Thanksgiving. Who will win?

Growin’ boy

Okay, okay, I know no one cared about what I did over my Thanksgiving vacation. You’re still waiting with bated breath to see what Hayden’s been up to. How was he on the plane? Any milestones in NC? Is he walking yet?

The flight was great. In fact, we just let Hayden fly by himself. Look:

Okay, so really the flight out was a bit rough but the flight back was pretty darn good.

Other things in Hayden’s life:

  • All he wants for Christmas: Two new teeth this last week. His top teeth are HUGE. Relatively speaking, I guess.
  • A budding love of music: discovered the piano at my parents’. I swear he got to play it more often than I did. My mom gave him a baby piano for our Christmas. It’s among his favorite toys now. Jasmine gave him a Leap Frog drum. He’s begun to understand that one better in the last few days.
  • Not quite ready to walk, though.

By the way, the above video was courtesy of my parents’ new digital camera. It’s the first digital ‘talkie’ that stars Hayden. Many more to come (hopefully). Another excellent Christmas gift from my parents: a mini DV camcorder. Just gotta get my hands on a firewire cable.

Chocoholic Details

This was inspired by my friend Lindsey’s blog: things that you may or may not know about me (some of them are directly inspired by hers). I decided to go with the first 11 things that came to mind.

  1. I’m just a little addicted to chocolate. Okay, that’s not even close to true. Seriously, I’m not sure when the last time I went a day without chocolate was. Ryan said he’d pay me $2 if I didn’t have chocolate today. We’ll see what happens in the next couple hours. I had Skittles instead of M&Ms today. That’s progress.
  2. I have never broken a bone in my own body.
  3. I have been involved in the breaking of a bone in my sister’s body, though. (It wasn’t completely my fault. She ran into me then fell against the couch. I’m blaming the couch all the way.)
  4. I only shower every other day. Like I do anything strenuous anyway.
  5. I’ve knit for about 9 years, but I’m just okay.
  6. I’ve played the piano for 15 years, but I’m just a little better than okay.
  7. Someone complimented my piano playing Sunday. This made me very happy.
  8. I’d never stayed overnight in a hospital before I had Hayden.
  9. My sisters and I played a game at breakfast where we compared the nutrition facts on our cereal boxes. As the oldest, I always convinced my sisters that if, for example, my sodium was lower than theirs, sodium was bad for you, so I won. Sugar, of course, should be maxed out.
  10. Speaking of cereal, Crispix is the only non-pre-sweetened cereal that I don’t drown in sugar. It’s also my favorite. I bought two boxes on sale tonight.
  11. I may never learn that it’s just too stressful to try to make some or all of my Christmas gifts. I also may never finish the jewelry roll I started for my sister two years ago. It’s getting closer to done. But I haven’t picked it up in ages.

I thought 11 was good. What do you think?
