For the boy who has everything
Okay, so maybe Hayden doesn’t have everything, but the kid’s got it pretty good. He’s got dozens of toys and only his parent to share them with—and a birthday coming up.
What do you get a little boy that doesn’t really need more toys for his birthday? (Great toy suggestions are, of course, welcome, too.)
I had a couple ideas:
- Outdoor furniture. (No, really—I saw this cute plastic Adirondack table and chairs set at the store and thought that would be fun for Hayden in the summer. Not now with our six+ inches of snow, though.)
- Books. (When shopping for friends, you may want to get suggestions for their library, just so you don’t get them something they already have.)
- Art supplies/crafts. (Even Hayden loves to color. Especially nice—something they can do together as a family.)
What else will make a kid’s life complete?

My son LOVES his art easel! It has a chalkboard and whiteboard/magnet sides, and you can use either a paper roll or loose paper with it. It was the best thing we could have picked up!
This year for his 3rd birthday, I’m looking at a tool bench for his room, a play house or costumes since he’s very much into imaginative play.

January 24th, 2008 at 7:14 pmI cannot remember how old your son is. Before Christmas, I wrote a post on what my twins have taught me about toy selection. To sum it up, purchase toys that are durable and that have more than one use (i.e., wooden blocks, Lincoln Logs, Legos, etc.) One of the favorite toys my children have is cardboard blocks that Melissa and Doug make. They love to play with those and have come up with so many awesome ideas for them (castles, houses, cities, doctor’s office, dino digs, etc.)
January 24th, 2008 at 8:42 pmAlso, one of the best things I have ever asked to be purchased for my children is “The Learning Tower” Step Stool. It is large enough for my twins to both stand on it at the same time. We use it several times each day. It is wide enough and has side supports so you do not have to be concerned with your child falling off of it. It is AWESOME for them to use to help me cook.
Good luck!
Crayola Color Wonder markers are a FAB invention. I love them because there’s no mess and the kids can use them anywhere. I am completely anti-regular markers now! Stock up on that special paper though.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:56 amI’d definitely go off that list, what about a bubble blower lawn mower? Most little boys seem to love this. Or a child’s bbq, small car, tonka trucks, sandbox, etc. With spring just around the corner these would be neat for him.
We have a huge living room downstairs that we’ve made into a child’s playroom. So toys are not on our list, however we got an easel before moving so arts and crafts are a definite this year for someone.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:28 amOur collapsable tunnel is always fun. And for a sandbox we just got a box from The Container Store–a long, flat plastic box with a lid that is meant to fit under a bed. We have no money and live in an apartment, so this alternative worked well for us. And what kid doesn’t need more playdough? I can see dried out playdough from here.
