A full hand!

Hayden turned five yesterday! We had a little party with his preschool class, complete with s’more cupcakes (mmmmmmmmmmm).

The first thing he got for his birthday wasn’t really planned, but I had to make a quick run and happened to ask if he was old enough, and he was:

His first library card!

He insisted on checking out my books for me. I let him enter his own PIN on the touchscreen at checkout. He was very happy. (He was also quite proud of the map the librarian gave him. I was quite proud that he printed his first name himself.)

He got the Pillow Pet (or Piwpet, as Rebecca calls hers) he’s been wanting since before Christmas, and the “mo-trol” car (remote control) he’s been wanting since he played with his cousin’s at New Year’s, as well as some awesome building toys that he’s already hard at work with. (He’s built a two foot tall crane on the dining room table!)

Also fun: Aunt Jasmine is visiting!

In the last week, Rebecca turned 2.5, Ryan turned… another year older, Hayden turned 5 and Rachel will be 8 months tomorrow. Me, I’m just a loser 😉 .

Awww look at that adorable face! I really cannot believe it’s been 5 years!

Pillow pets are an awesome gift for a 5 year old. It’s good to see that Hayden isn’t unrealistic with his gift demands like my other nephews! Jay wanted an iphone for his 7th birthday. I refused so my sister bought him a Blackberry. Insane.

Did you have the Pillow People when you were younger? I loved mine SOOOOO much but after years of toting that thing everywhere my mom had to get rid of it.

An iPhone?!?! A Blackberry?!?!

Yes, we did have Pillow People! My sisters and I talked about that recently. That’s one of those things where years later you realize how bizarre it seemed to adults, LOL.

You’re lucky his birthday is so close to Christmas. That way you remember what he still wants 🙂

Oh yeah! He used the Blackberry for two weeks before he said…”The iPhone’s better. This is lame.” Now he has nothing. 🙂

And that’s a good point, Brooke! Lucky for me, with my birthday being in November, I usually received everything I wanted around the same time. The downside with that though, is that I had to wait 11 months for good gifts!

Wait, that’s not true either. I was such a brat that my parents gave me gifts on my sister’s birthday!

@Brooke—LOL. There’s very little memory involved when they child brings it up every two hours 😉 .

Hello, s’mores cupcakes? YUM.

Also, hooray for a library card! Yay! 🙂

Cool on the library card and doing the screen by himself!

Isn’t it amazing what a kid wants for months is only to hold the pillow pal and do the remote control car? Really glad you kept coming back until he reached that goal!

It’s shouldn’t be very hard
To have fun with a library card.
Or something like that. Aunt J always quotes that.
I am glad he got a library card. A good beginning. Jasmine still has the one she signed when she was a little girl!
Have fun.

@Mom—the librarian joked that Hayden couldn’t have another card until he was 20 and by the time he was about 9, he’d hate his signature on the card.
